A chromosome is a single large macromolecule of DNA, and constitutes a physically organized form of DNA in a cell. It is a very long, continuous piece of DNA (a single DNA molecule), which contains many genes, regulatory elements and other intervening nucleotide sequences. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes. In each pair one comes from the mother and one from the father. These genetic traits from both sides will determine whether you inheriate your mothers blonde hair or your fathers brown hair. Your mother green eyes or you fathers brown eyes....etc. The 23rd chromosome is the one that determines sex. XY for males and XX for females.
